Partial Match

Exact match

Sometimes you want data that contains all of your search criteria. For example, you may want to find data or pages that have the terms airline and discount and fares. A search on air and discount and fare will only include data that have all these terms.

Search in Search

By way of example, consider finding good airline fares. A search on air and discount and fare will only include data that have all these terms hence will exclude such data or pages that feature airline economy fares

By doing a general search and then a sub-search of the found data, a more complete search. Few search tools include the search in search feature.

Phrase Searching

Data Retrieval

A means of fetching data. Data Retrieval sometime suggests not only fetching the data but manipulating the data in some useful way. Ferret32 has added several new methods of manipulating data.

Exclude or Not

Some of the search engines allow you to exclude data that contain certain words. This is a helpful way to narrow a search.

Multi-threaded Search

Think of finding a friend. We could just call every person with his or her name, one at a time until we found the person. Ideally, it would be better to find every possible candidate at the same time. The first search would be one that proceeded in a step sequential (serial) fashion. The preferred search proceeds concurrently (at the same time). Concurrent or Multi-threaded Search have parallel non inter-dependent search paths. Since anyone of the individual search paths can be viewed independently while others are still in progress, multi-threaded search is a more powerful means of finding what you seek.

Ferret32's Interoperability

The figure below shows Ferret32 in relation to some other windows based tools. What it cannot show you is just how well it does some of the tasks it does and how easy it becomes to find web pages, files, data, records, sentences, passwords, telephone numbers, formula or anything else.

Ferret32 is highly integrated with Google and inluced subject, maps, definitions and Image search. Ferret32 includes hooks for the Dos Shell, Explorer, mail, the file system, Web Pages, MS Word, MS Excel, the system clipboard. The program includes PDF based text, history of searching with replay, conversions, calendar with Julian Date, "en mass" file renaming, "en mass" file date changing, and Ferret32 may be called from the command line by other programs.
